![]() ![]() The newly announced Into the Nexus promises a return to the classic Ratchet gameplay fans have been missing and after soaking in the available information about the game (via the PS Blog, the PS Blogcast and IGN’s preview), I thought I’d give some thoughts on whether this next game is worth getting all excited for again.ĭeveloper Insomniac says this game will act as an epilogue of sorts to the Future saga previously comprised of Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty and A Crack in Time. I didn’t like the lack of narrative compared to the rest of the series either and to be honest I am just not the biggest fan of tower defense. Full Frontal Assault actually had some tight fun gameplay, but the competitive modes that the game was largely made for didn’t mesh all that well for me. ![]() All 4 One’s move to co-op might have been alright, but was hampered by the game’s isometric perspective and a lack of series gameplay staples (non-linear exploration and experience-based weapon upgrades being the ones that standout to me as the biggest omissions). And yet those games just didn’t turn out as well as I’d have liked. After all, since the series began in 2002, there have been seven games following a fairly similar formula across multiple platforms (with Deadlocked and Secret Agent Clank deviating a little more than the rest). I don’t begrudge Insomniac for trying something a little different with the franchise in these last two entries. Ratchet & Clank is one of my all-time favorite game series and yet after recent years I can’t help but greet the announcement of a new adventure for the lovable Lombax and his robot pal with a bit of apprehension.
